THE WONDERS OF FATHERHOOD

sometimes the minds of children just amaze me. when your children are first born, they are like these little blobs of skin and chubby bones. a good portion of that first 6 months is time spent saying “come on. do something cool.” even a good 6 months after that is spent saying “come on. say something.”

but after your kids start growing, you start to see the synapses firing in their little brains and you can see child logic at work. it’s fantastic. my daughters turn 2 tomorrow, and just seeing them in action has me awestruck. i laid them down to sleep last night, and they both told me they love me, and gave me big hugs, and drifted off relatively easy. i spent the next 15 minutes or so with a ear to ear smile and eyes full of tears.

these little girls are my flesh and blood. the result of chance and millions of years of genetic evolution. i remember seeing little garbanzo beans bouncing in the ultrasound and now they run and jump and laugh and cry. i am humbled by their very existence, and the fact that they chose me as their father.

if you don’t have kids, it’s probably hard for you to understand. if you do have kids, make sure you take the time to truly enjoy and understand them. they are a blessing and shouldn’t be overlooked. no matter how busy you are, there is always time to learn from your kids.
