OIL APOCALYPSE

i just got done watching history channel’s mega disasters episode “oil apocalypse.” downright scary.

the episode outlines the history of oil in our society and the consequences of our dependence. the scariest thing about it is that our alternatives are not much better. every single one will dismantle the ecosystem at varying rates, and not one solution will keep us out of a massive recession. the only options that will give clean, reliable fuel are solar and wind power, but both could take decades to be instituted to the degree americans consume.

truth is, oil will one day be used up, and there won’t be anymore. that’s it. our only real choice is a massive alteration of our way of life. conservation of fuel to the point of being stingy and a steady increase on reliance on solar and wind. these things need to be pushed as much as possible. it’s the only way.

in our modern world, every single major power is heavily dependent on fossil fuels, and that need increases every single day. supplies are beginning to dwindle, and we know that. why else are gas prices so high? why all this talk of off shore drilling? alternative energy? we are beginning to scramble. if you remove oil from our culture, you remove cars, buses, trucks, farm equipment, trains, airplanes, and countless plastics, medicines, and other day to day products. if we didn’t have those things it would thrust our entire society into a violent upheaval where people are literally fighting to survive. we would live out the remainder of our lives in a new dark age.

at this point, all we as citizens can do is conserve. try to drive less, walk anywhere when possible, carpool whenever feasible. i’ll do my damndest, i know that much. damn workin 20 miles away from home…

here’s a link to a clip from the show.
